The Core Council

Post by PresidentDavid on Wed Jul 27, 2016 9:02 pm

The Core Council is the legislature of the game. They are comprised of the Core GMs, including the Chief GM who is effectively the Head of Government of the game. The Core Council can change rules and amend the charter, they can create new rules, and they can even ban or punish players. The Chief GM has great power in choosing what GMs moderate what wars and designating them to other necessary tasks. He is also a Core GM, and has a vote like the others.

This forum is only for GMs. If players have an issue that needs to be resolved, or a grievance, they should refer to the GM's Court.

The Core Council
Chief GM - Dragojev
Core GM - Gray_Area
Core GM - Owl
Core GM - Kasumi

Greetings Core Council. I just wanted to inform you all that I've begun to outreach to a surprisingly large niche community in reddit who have their own version of nation-rp. Many have seemed interested in joining here, so I gave them our information. I'm also really happy to see that some of you have taken initiative to bring "classic players" into the game. Great work.

Alright, given we got duties to delegate, I suggest Owl as Master of Maps gets to do land claim review, Rudy already is Chief GM, Gray, do you want to be record keeper of points or do spy rolls? I do whatever's left.

With the GM Council now set up, I would like to once again make the suggestion of figuring out some way to prevent - or at least to hinder and/or discourage - massive blobbing in the RP, which tends to happen once some player tries to treat the RP like the game of Risk.

Now, I'm not saying that there shouldn't be any nation expansion; just that I believe that it should be more limited, and perhaps have a system in place that makes it a bit more realistic/challenging (hence my mentioning Civilization as an example).

I'll do spy rolls, if'n you don't mind.

On that note, I'm also going to suggest we adopt a system akin to the new SKRP system; anyone wishing to place agents in another country PMs a GM (in this case, myself; though any GM should work) their post about where their spy is going, what said spy is after (in a general sense), and how they go about it (again in a general sense).

Both the spying player and GM clean the post of any mention of the spy's origin, then the GM posts it on their behalf; the targeted player then makes their couter-intelligence post.

While your suggestions are welcome, the Core Council thread is only for GM's to post in. Please don't post here again. Feel free to put your suggestions out anywhere in the OOC forum.

I do not see the reason for such a detour, and frankly, my opinion of the SKRP system could not be worse. The best case scenario I experienced from SKRP was when people tried to map out half my military and track my fleet in real time, with the GM asking me to cough up the info. As the other party would not be named and no initial info was given as to how the intel was collected, I pretty much had to puzzle it together myself, to then make the valid case that the system used was actually not capable of doing what my opponent tried to do. The reason I am opposed to such a system is thus mostly that I feel like it is counter-intuitive in SKRPs system to actually question the technology at work, despite most people having no clue whatsoever and I know that someone in similar circumstances pretty much just provided the info, believing that the GM had done a proper job and trusting their authority on the matter.

It is thus that I feel like it'd be better to write it down and provide the method, so people can argue against the unreasonable. For my personal example, the sole thing the roundabout way did was to annoy the fuck out of me, because anyone with two working brain cells would have figured out who'd be spying on me. Add to that, that the system in SKRP has two different spy systems, which partly get ignored, when such is convenient.

I do acknowledge though that your proposal would leave a proper paper trail, and thus I leave it to others to decide. It seems to me just like an unnecessary effort.

Yeah, I remember in SKRP that I specifically made a counterespionage attempt at Vietnam but somehow having to tell Fenway everything because "someone wants to spy on you."
